Humanities Graduation 2016

Humanities graduation season saw 1,810 being capped over four ceremonies. A bumper 1,810 Humanities students were capped at this year’s June Graduation Ceremony. Four separate Humanities ceremonies (9,10, 14 and 15 June) saw 962 undergraduate students receiving their degrees; 38 PhD degrees; 161 Masters and 417 Honours degrees were awarded as well as 232 Postgraduate Diplomas. 

The June 2016 event included those students who would have graduated in December 2015. Among this year’s graduating class: 2015 UCT SRC President Ramabina Mahapa and Kalaba Chibale first born son of Professor Kelly Chibale in the Faculty of Health Science. Previous Humanities Student Council members: Meghan Daniels (2014); Keenan Hendrickse (HSC Chair in 2012 and UCT SRC member for two years); current SRC member and HSC Chair in 2015, Ryan Prithraj; Zuko Tisani (HSC Chair in 2014) attended the second Humanities ceremony. Abigail Baker Skotnes who is the niece of Professor Pippa Skotnes (Michaelis School of Fine Art) and Jessica Breakey who served on the UCT SRC in 2013/2014 and was a recipient of the Executive Director's Award for 2014. Siwaphiwe Sibeko who was among the first cohort of ‘wanabe@humanities’ students back in 2011 attended her graduation ceremony on Friday, 10 June. Sibeko is currently enrolled for an Honours degree in Anthropology.
